Over 230 Artists Around the World Will Give Away Free Art on March 12th
TORONTO – February 25, 2025 – This year marks the first International Art and Found Day, an event initiated by Toronto artist Courtney Senior. Over 200 artists across 27 countries will leave art around their cities on March 12th, 2021 for local residents to find.
Painters, illustrators, photographers, graphic designers, sculptors and other artisans will place their selected work around their cities with the intent to have a neighbourhood resident pick it up. Each artwork will be carefully packaged with a note on the outside marked with the hashtag #ArtandFoundDay. Each package will also include the artist’s contact information, so residents who find the artworks have the opportunity to connect with the artists directly.
“After a chaotic 2020, I wanted to do something that I knew would uplift spirits and spread positive energy through the community,” says Courtney Senior. “Art is powerful. It is a catalyst for inspiration, creativity and motivation. It is the perfect tool for societies to connect and share a positive experience after a year of turmoil. With the supportive, generous and incredibly talented artist community behind this, I know Art and Found Day will be a success.”
The concept of Art and Found started in 2015 in Toronto, Canada when Senior would leave free artworks around the city and share it on social media. Since then, artists around the world have joined the movement. To date, 232 artists have signed up for the first Art and Found Day, from countries including Australia, Austria, Brazil, Canada, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, India, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Malta, Mexico, New Zealand, Pakistan, Portugal, Prague, Romania, Singapore, Sweden, Netherlands, United Kingdom and the United States.
