By day, I am a VP of marketing for a tech company in Toronto, ON and by night, I am a self-taught abstract artist.
Ever since I was a little, I would immerse myself in creative activities - from colouring and drawing to painting and writing. I pursued a career in marketing long before I started painting. I love the combination of creative thinking, strategy and analytics that go into building a brand. I have always been very hands on and as a result have worked hard to understand and successfully execute all facets of marketing from public relations and social media to graphic design, website development and SEO. The irony is that when I started selling my paintings I didn’t think much about marketing. I thought of painting as a hobby to relieve stress rather than a viable business opportunity. I didn’t build a website or a social media following until two years into selling. I didn’t even do an art show until a year after that. But once I put my marketing know-how into practice, I saw the power it had to create immense opportunities; not just in terms of sales, but in gallery representation, product sponsorships and media interviews.
In 4 years, I have sold hundreds of paintings, participated in numerous shows, built a 6 figure instagram following and have millions of video views. Through this blog I will share with you what I have learned along the way in both the marketing world and the artist world. From website creation and social media to branding, photography and even painting techniques, I hope this gives you the tips and tricks you need to either get started, build momentum or just learn something new.
